AYER KEROH – The birth mother and stepfather of the seven-year-old boy found drowned in a water bucket at Krubong pleaded not guilty and claimed trial.
The unfortunate child, Zubaidi Amir Qusyairi Abd Malek, was believed to be an abuse victim of the couple last month.
The two suspects, his birth mother, Zuraida Atan and his stepfather, Mohd Fadzli Abdul Razak were brought to the court to be charged with murder and abuse of Amir.
According to the charge papers, at 3.32 pm at Taman Krubong Jaya, Zuraida had jointly killed and caused the death of Zubaidi Amir Qusyairi. Upon conviction, the two suspects would face death sentence under Section 302 of the Penal Code.
However, no confession was recorded for the charge, meanwhile, Judge Mazana Sinin set the mention of the case on 29 March after the autopsy result is submitted to the court.
Right after that, the suspects were brought to the Sessions Court for offences under Section 31 (1) (a) of the Child Act 2001, which is punishable with an imprisonment of not more than 20 years or fined RM20,000 or both.
The two suspects pleaded not guilty and claimed trial before Judge Nariman Badruddin after the charges were read to them.
Nariman then set 29 March for the mention of case.
Zuraida was represented by defence counsel, Ishak Mohd Kari, Yusman Che Aman and Saifuzzaman Ab Rahman, meanwhile, her husband was represented by Datuk Ahmad Mustafi.
Zubaidi Amir Qusyairi was found dead at his house, in a 60.9 centimetre water bucket at around 4.00 pm on 29 January.
Police investigation on physical examination towards the body of the victim found bruises and injuries on several parts of the victim’s body.
Early autopsy found many bruises, new and old injuries on the child’s body.
Besides that, a three centimetre small wound was also found behind the boy’s head and it is believed to be a fresh found. –MalaysiaGazette
